Streambox Media, a startup operating for two and a half years, has introduced Dor, a subscription-driven smart TV service. The offering integrates high-quality hardware with access to content from various OTT platforms.
Dor is designed to transform home entertainment with its 4K QLED TV and is scheduled to debut on Flipkart on December 1. The service comes integrated with over 24 video streaming apps, 300+ live TV channels, gaming, and news, all available for a fixed monthly subscription fee.
Furthermore, Dor will let users activate the service with an upfront fee of ₹9,999 for a 43-inch TV, ₹16,999 for a 55-inch model, or ₹24,999 for a 65-inch screen. Notably, with a monthly fee of ₹799 subscribers will commit to a 12-month lock-in period.
The service currently includes access to popular OTT platforms such as Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, Zee5, SonyLiv, Jio Cinema, YouTube, Discovery+, Sun Nxt, Aha, Hoichoi, and Lionsgate Play. Streambox Media has also announced that Netflix will be added to the lineup soon.
Additionally, for a seamless viewing experience the Dor TV comes equipped with 4K Ultra HD resolution, Dolby Audio, a solar-powered remote, and a proprietary operating system. Manufactured in India with the support of Micromax’s production capabilities, the TVs boast a capacity of up to 500,000 units per month.
Rahul Sharma, co-founder, Micromax Informatics, said, “India’s connected TV market remains underpenetrated due to high hardware costs and fragmented services. With Dor, we’re providing a unified solution at an affordable price, enabling households to access premium content with ease.”
However, while the service shows promise, subscription-based models, though innovative, have faced difficulties globally, with initiatives from companies like Sky and Roku seeing limited success. Additionally, beyond the initial 12-month lock-in period sustaining subscriber interest will depend on regular feature enhancements, robust content partnerships, and dependable after-sales support.
