India vs Pakistan Match on Disney+Hotstar Sets a New Benchmark with a Viewership Record of 3.5 Crore

The match between India and Pakistan set a new viewership record with 3.5 crore viewers on Disney+Hotstar.

The recent ICC Cricket World Cup clash between India and Pakistan set a new viewership milestone on Disney+Hotstar, reaching a peak of 3.5 crore concurrent viewers (=35 million)

This achievement outdid the previous record of 3.2 crore (32 million) viewers during the IPL finale game between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans earlier in the year.

The rivalry match during the Asia Cup between the same teams had a peak concurrency of 2.8 crore. To put it in perspective, the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup semi-final between India and New Zealand saw a peak of 2.53 crore viewers.

Though the India-Pakistan game was also broadcast on the Star Sports network by Disney Star, official viewership data from the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) is anticipated in a week. Disney Star holds the unique privilege of having exclusive broadcasting and media rights for both traditional and digital mediums.

Adding to the enthusiasm, multiplex giant PVR INOX showcased the match in some theatres, noting a significant turnout. Many of their screens were fully booked for the game.

Disney+ Hotstar India’s Head, Sajith Sivanandan, expressed his gratitude: “We would like to thank all the fans who tuned in to watch the India-Pakistan match on Disney+ Hotstar. Your love for the game made it possible for Disney+ Hotstar to break all the previous records across all cricket formats and hit a peak concurrency number of 3.5 crore viewers.” He added that as the cricketing events continue, Disney+Hotstar remains committed to offering an unparalleled viewing experience.

Sivanandan said, “We look forward to many more such experiences as the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup unfolds.”

The 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup introduced a new vertical video feed via ICC TV, backed by Disney Star. This addition aimed to enhance the mobile viewing experience for this edition of the Cricket World Cup.

The vertical feed, which covered all 48 matches, was tailored to be more compatible with mobile devices, letting viewers easily enjoy the game on their phones or tablets. A standout feature was the split screens, offering viewers a detailed view of the activities on the field.
