Apple Vision Pro Opens for Pre-Orders Featuring Disney+ and Advanced 3D Viewing Options

Apple Vision Pro Set for Pre-Orders Ahead of February 2 Launch, Featuring Enhanced Disney+ 3D Viewing

The forthcoming Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset is set to begin pre-orders this week, with its official release scheduled for February 2. The device will feature Disney+ as one of its primary entertainment offerings.

Users can select from four unique Disney+ ‘environments’ to enhance their viewing experience. These environments will feature animations, sounds, and hidden surprises related to various films and franchises.

The available environments at the time of launch include the Disney+ Theater, modelled after the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Pixar’s Monsters Inc. Scale Floor, Marvel’s Avengers Tower with a view of downtown Manhattan, and Luke Skywalker’s land speeder cockpit from Star Wars.

These immersive environments were developed using Pixar’s Universal Scene Description (USD) format, which was open-sourced in 2016.

The headset will support 3D movies encoded in Multiview High-Efficiency Video Coding (MV-HEVC) with Dolby Vision, offering Ultra High Definition resolution with High Dynamic Range.

Subscribers to Disney+ will have access to its entire catalogue, including additional access to Hulu for those with the Disney Bundle in the United States.

Featured 3D movies at launch will include titles like Avatar: The Way of Water, Avengers: Endgame, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, among others. Additionally, Disney movies purchased in 3D from the Apple TV app will be accessible on the Apple Vision Pro without extra charges.

Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, emphasized their ongoing quest to blend creativity with technology for unique entertainment experiences. He expressed excitement about partnering with Apple to bring global innovative Disney experiences to audiences through the Apple Vision Pro.

The Apple Vision Pro will also include content from other platforms such as ESPN, NBA, MLB, PGA Tour, and more, along with Apple TV+ shows and movies. A highlight feature will be the MLS Season Pass for soccer fans in the US.

At launch, the headset will offer 150 3D movies, including notable titles like Dune and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Apple Vision Pro users will be able to access 3D versions of movies from the Apple TV app, either through rental, purchase, or existing ownership.

One of the standout features of the Apple Vision Pro is the Apple Immersive Video format, supporting 180° 3D 8K recordings with Spatial Audio. Apple plans to showcase this technology with a curated selection of films and series, including unique content like Alicia Keys: Rehearsal Room and Adventure.
