Warner Bros. Discovery is set to introduce a sports tier pack to their Max streaming service in the US from October 5th.
Warner Bros. Discovery Sports, in collaboration with Bleacher Report, will introduce a new sports tier to their U.S. streaming service, Max. This addition will go live on October 5.
Subscribers can access a comprehensive range of live sports such as MLB, NHL, NBA, NCAA Men’s March Madness, U.S. Soccer events, and more. This package will also include acclaimed studio shows like “Inside the NBA” and various live video content from Bleacher Report, select international sports events, and a vast selection of on-demand content.
The company announced that this initiative would enable the fans to access WBD’s rich premium live sports content on streaming platforms for the first time, alongside traditional linear methods, and it will also feature over 300 live games annually.
During a recent Goldman Sachs Communacopia and Technology conference, WBD CEO David Zaslav emphasized the importance of sports to their streaming strategy. Zaslav hinted at the potential for a national sports streaming platform to change market dynamics.
He expressed that they have had success with bundling news and sports in the past, though the rising cost of sports has prompted some distributors to reconsider its inclusion.
Regarding a potential rights agreement renewal with the NBA, Zaslav mentioned the company’s focus on fiscal health, stating they wouldn’t compromise the company’s well-being for any intellectual property.
The B/R Sports Add-On will debut just in time for key sports events such as the MLB Postseason. After a promotional period ending on February 29, this package will be available to Max subscribers for an extra $9.99 monthly.
Live games broadcasted on Warner Bros. Discovery channels like TNT, TBS, and truTV will also be accessible through the B/R Sports Add-On. This service will offer live pre-and post-game shows and an extensive selection of on-demand content.
Furthermore, Bleacher Report’s live video offerings, covering events like the NFL Draft and a range of Creator League competitions, will be incorporated into the B/R Sports Add-On.
Warner Bros. Discovery Sports boasts a vast repository of live sports content from MLB, NHL, NBA, NCAA, U.S. Soccer, and more.
JB Perrette, CEO and President of Global Streaming and Games, emphasized their streaming service’s comprehensive nature with this new addition. Similarly, Luis Silberwasser, Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery Sports, expressed their intent to cater to all sports fans by providing an extensive and engaging range of content on their platform.
