Tata Play Expands Services with Platform As A Service (PaaS) for International OTT Aggregators

Tata Play unveils its Platform As A Service (PaaS) white-label OTT aggregator for International market players.

On September 27, the leading direct-to-home service provider, Tata Play (previously known as Tata Sky), unveiled its innovative Tata Play Binge Platform as a Service (PaaS).

This service, tailored for OTT aggregators globally, promises comprehensive backend functionalities and cloud-supported hosting.

This year saw Tata Play extending its Binge service to users outside its primary subscriber base two years after its initial launch. Now, the firm is broadening its horizons, presenting full-fledged backend services to international entities.

The maiden partnership in this venture is with Cignal TV, a prominent pay-TV provider from the Philippines, as shared by Harit Nagpal, the CEO of Tata Play, at a recent industry gathering in Bali.

Nagpal elaborated on the initiative: “Our Binge software, in its PaaS incarnation, offers a holistic development and deployment suite. Beyond the foundational software, our collaborating partners will tap into our accumulated expertise spanning strategic partnerships, analytics, subscription frameworks, and more. This fresh enterprise solution spearheads a unique OTT content collection and distribution system.”

Tata Play’s aggregator service streamlines user experience, allowing content access from multiple OTT channels via one app, one subscription, and a unified interface. While the parent entity focuses on forging OTT alliances and regional subscriber acquisition, Tata Play commits to handling the comprehensive tech infrastructure.

Cignal TV’s CEO, Jane J Basas, expressed her company’s eagerness to embrace the OTT aggregator model, citing Tata Play Binge’s trajectory as an inspirational benchmark.

She revealed that the final stages of their collaboration are underway, with a market launch anticipated in less than twelve months. The alliance promises Cignal TV a rapid and economical launch of its aggregator service on its home turf.

In the domestic Indian market, Tata Play Binge offers a single-subscription gateway to 28 apps spanning 13 languages, including prominent names like Disney+ Hotstar, Apple TV+, Jio Cinema, ZEE5, Sun Nxt and more.
