Spotify and Roku are collaborating to deliver video ads on the Spotify app through Roku.
The digital streaming landscape is witnessing a new collaborative venture as Spotify and Roku unite to introduce video advertisements on the Spotify app for Roku users across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This initiative reflects a growing shift in advertising trends, spotlighting a transition from traditional platforms to digital streaming channels.
As audiences increasingly opt for digital streaming over conventional mediums, the demand for streaming content has soared, prompting advertisers to reallocate their budgets. Recent data reveals a declining trend in US linear TV advertising spend, down by 8.0% yearly, contrasting with a 21.2% rise in Connected TV (CTV) ad expenditure. This year, the spending on CTV advertising in the US is projected to hit $25.09 billion, while linear platforms will see a total spend of $61.31 billion.
The partnership between Spotify and Roku is a familiar one. Still, this latest venture aims to leverage the dominant position of Roku as the leading TV streaming platform in the mentioned regions.
This move is set to enhance Spotify’s offerings on Roku, making it more interactive and engaging with the addition of video ads, hence marking the first stride towards the inauguration of the Spotify CTV Partner Network.
Lee Brown, the Global Head of Advertising Business and Platform at Spotify, expressed enthusiasm about furthering their long-standing partnership with Roku. He highlighted the endeavor to broaden Spotify’s accessibility across all devices, responding to the advertiser’s quest for more avenues to reach Spotify’s users.
According to Brown, both Spotify and Roku have been pivotal players in the streaming revolution, and this collaboration will continue to open doors for advertisers aiming to connect with a highly engaged user base.
Spotify’s innovative approach is evident, with many visual experiences now available on its platform, from artist clips and video podcasts to novel app features.
This partnership with Roku is anticipated to amplify brand reach to Spotify’s extensive global audience of over 500 million, optimizing the advertising spend impact.
The initiative will begin with integrating Spotify’s Video Takeover ad experience on the Roku platform, which is already accessible on mobile, tablet, and desktop devices. As part of the long-term vision, the duo plans to unveil more video ad products, including video podcast ads, expanding the advertising possibilities on this platform.
Alison Levin, VP of Ad Revenue and Marketing Solutions at Roku, shared her excitement about launching Spotify’s TV streaming video ads. She emphasized the unique stance of Roku and Spotify in maximizing the advertising potential on the largest screen in homes, lauding the partnership as a thrilling endeavor to bolster brand engagement in the digital streaming sphere.
