Samsung Electronics has announced that its latest smart TVs and monitors will now support Netflix shows and movies in HDR10+, offering viewers a superior visual experience with deeper contrast, richer colors, and stunning detail.
Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “HDR10+ enhances the way we watch content, delivering deeper contrast and more vibrant colors for a truly cinematic experience. We are excited to bring this technology to Netflix’s 300 million plus members and will continue collaborating with various partners to expand HDR10+ support across our product lineup and the broader streaming ecosystem.”
According to Netflix, AV1-HDR10+ now accounts for 50% of all eligible viewing hours. The streaming giant also revealed plans to roll out HDR10+ support for all HDR titles by the end of this year, solidifying its commitment to dynamic visual quality and platform-wide compatibility.
HDR10+ is an advanced version of high dynamic range (HDR), pioneered by Samsung. Unlike standard HDR10, which applies a static tone map across an entire video, HDR10+ uses dynamic metadata to adjust brightness and contrast scene-by-scene or even frame-by-frame. This allows for a more accurate rendering of visual elements, staying true to how creators intended the content to be viewed.
Furthermore, While HDR10 uses static metadata, HDR10+ competes directly with Dolby Vision by using dynamic metadata that adapts to each scene’s lighting conditions and content structure. This ensures optimized tone mapping, sharper clarity, and improved consistency across various displays. With HDR10+ support expanding rapidly, and streaming leaders like Netflix embracing the format, consumers can expect a more immersive and authentic viewing experience straight from their living rooms.
