Hulu Goes Down for Thousands of Users

Hulu, one of the most popular streaming platforms, had a major outage on April 8th, that left thousands of users across the U.S. unable to log in or watch content, according to TechRadar.

The problem was first noticed around 10:03 AM EST. Downdetector, a website that tracks service issues, reported a spike of over 12,300 complaints at that time. This shows the outage affected a large number of users nationwide.

Oddly enough, Disney+, which is owned by the same company as Hulu, wasn’t affected by the problem. Many users in New York, especially those on iPhones and iPads, said Disney+ worked just fine. But when they tried to watch Hulu, the app wouldn’t load any shows or movies even if they were already logged in. And when people tried logging in on new devices, they got error messages, suggesting the issue was more than just a glitch likely something on the backend.

Hulu’s support team (@HuluSupport) quickly responded to the situation. They posted updates on social media and let users know that their tech team was working hard to fix the issue. Many appreciated this fast communication, especially since other platforms have taken longer to respond during similar issues in the past.

Thankfully, things started getting better soon. By 10:52 AM EST, complaints had dropped to around 1,100. That’s when Hulu Support confirmed on X (formerly Twitter):
“Thank you for your patience. The login issue from earlier has been resolved. If you’re still running into any trouble on your end, please restart and try again.”

If you’re still having trouble using Hulu, restarting your device and logging in again seems to work for most people. Several users have shared that this fixed the issue for them.

This isn’t the first time Hulu has had technical problems this year. Just last month, the service went down again that time during the 2025 Oscars. Viewers had to scramble to find other ways to watch the event.
