Roku has announced that it has exceeded 90 million streaming households as of the first week of January 2025, an increase from 85.5 million in October 2024. This update comes after Roku decided last year to discontinue quarterly reports on streaming household numbers and average revenue per user, choosing instead to concentrate on revenue and profitability metrics.
Anthony Wood, Roku’s Founder and CEO, said, “Roku’s extensive scale sets us apart in the streaming industry, with more engagement than any other TV OS platform in the US. Thanks to our laser focus on simplifying and enhancing the streamer’s journey, Roku is the preferred choice for millions of viewers. I’m grateful to our customers, partners, advertisers, and employees for helping us reach this notable milestone.”
Roku’s latest updates also showcase its growing offerings. The company’s TVs and streaming devices provide a vast content library, featuring over 500 free live linear channels in the US, premium exclusive content, and thousands of free on-demand options. Tools like universal search, the Live TV Guide, and “What to Watch” make it easier for users to discover content across various apps, while unique content hubs like the Olympics Zone compile genre-based programming from the entire platform into one easy-to-navigate location.
In addition to this growth, Roku has emphasized that its primary focus remains on platform revenue and profitability rather than just subscriber counts. The company provides updates only for major milestones, such as reaching 100 million streaming households
