India’s national public broadcaster, Prasar Bharati, has introduced its new OTT platform, Waves. The app, available for download on Android and iOS devices, is promoted under the tagline “Waves – Family Entertainment Ki Nayi Lehar.”
The Waves OTT platform features approximately 40 live channels, including well-known networks like SAB Group, B4U, ABZY, and 9X Media. It also offers access to prominent news channels such as ABP News, News24, India Today, News Nation, Republic, and NDTV India.
According to sources, the 40 channels available on the Waves platform were curated based on factors such as GRPs, reach, and current popularity trends. In addition, all Doordarshan and Akashvani channels are available on the platform. However, some major broadcasters’ channels are currently not included.
Furthermore, the OTT platform offers a variety of live channels, including Pitaara Movies, PTC Punjabi Gold, PTC Punjabi, Dabang, 9X Jalwa, 9X Jhakaas, 9X Tashan, B4U Kadak, B4U Bhojpuri, B4U Music, B4U Movies, ABZY Movies, ABZY Dhakad, Mastii, Maiboli, and USPL, for diverse entertainment preferences.
Additionally, the platform will offer a variety of content, including films such as The Impossible, Aarakshan, One Day, and Alice Darling. It also features TV shows, games, and a dedicated live events section. The app is set to be officially launched today at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.
Notably, in August, Prasar Bharati extended an invitation to TV channels to join its OTT platform, marking a significant step in enhancing its digital presence. The initiative features a distinctive revenue-sharing model, allocating 65% of advertising revenue to broadcasters, while Prasar Bharati retains 35%. This approach aims to expand its digital footprint and provide a competitive revenue-sharing framework in the market.
