Virtual MVPD Philo has provided updates on its business, revealing new revenue and subscriber figures, expanding its free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) content, and announcing plans to introduce transactional video on demand (TVOD) early next year.
Philo currently offers a streaming pay TV package that includes over 70 premium channels for $28 per month. In addition to its paid lineup, Philo provides more than 100 FAST channels and includes a subscription to the ad-supported version of AMC+ at no extra cost. The platform also features an on-demand library and unlimited DVR storage.
As a private company, Philo does not regularly disclose financial or subscriber data. However, this week it shared that its paid subscriber base has grown to 1.3 million, an increase from the 1 million reported in January 2024, according to LightReading. This places Philo near sports-focused vMVPD Fubo, which had 1.6 million North American subscribers at the end of Q3 2024. Fubo recently entered a business arrangement with Hulu + Live TV under a deal with Disney, though both services continue to operate as separate offerings.
About Philo
Philo operates in a competitive streaming landscape that includes major vMVPDs such as YouTube TV, Sling TV, and DirecTV Stream, which offer varying channel lineups and pricing. The company’s focus on affordability and entertainment-focused programming sets it apart from competitors that include sports and local broadcast networks in their packages.
With the expansion of FAST channels and the upcoming launch of TVOD, Philo is positioning itself to appeal to budget-conscious consumers while broadening its content offerings. The impact of these strategic moves remains to be seen as competition in the streaming TV industry continues to intensify.
