NOW, Sky’s streaming platform, is set to undergo a significant transformation as it moves to NBCUniversal’s Global Streaming Platform. The transition, which begins on February 18, aims to enhance user experience with new features, a fresh interface, and improved personalization options.
The announcement was made by Carli Kerr, Managing Director of NOW & Sky Content, at the OTT Question Time Live event in London. Kerr emphasized that the move to NBCUniversal’s platform will enable NOW members to benefit from continuous updates, advanced technologies, and a more seamless viewing experience.
Carli Kerr, Managing Director of NOW & Sky Content, said, “Migrating to NBCU’s Global Streaming Platform means NOW members will benefit from the ongoing delivery of customer features that enhance the viewing experience and leverage the latest technologies and innovations across the platform.”
The upcoming migration will bring several enhancements aimed at improving content discovery and navigation. A new ‘Top 10’ section will showcase trending content, making it easier for viewers to find popular shows and movies. The search experience will be more intuitive, allowing users to locate their favorite content with greater ease. Sports enthusiasts will benefit from curated Sky Sports+ collections, providing quick access to live events and highlights. Adding to the introduction of dedicated Kid’s profiles will give families greater control over content, ensuring a safe and age-appropriate viewing experience.
Additionally, NOW members in the UK and Ireland will be the first to experience the upgraded platform starting February 18, with a phased rollout across Smart TVs, tablets, and other supported devices through March. Furthermore, customers in Italy and WOW members in Germany will receive the update at a later stage.
NBCUniversal’s Global Streaming Platform already supports major services like Peacock in the U.S., SkyShowtime in Europe, and Multichoice in Africa, reaching over 70 countries worldwide. By adopting this infrastructure, NOW aims to provide a more personalized and feature-rich experience to its users while maintaining its flexible monthly subscription model.
The transition marks a significant step for NOW as it aligns with NBCUniversal’s advanced streaming technology to improve accessibility, content curation, and overall performance.
