Freeview, the UK’s free-to-view TV platform, has announced a significant sales milestone, revealing that it has sold nearly 23 million TVs since 2014, citing statistics from the GFK PTV Panel.
Freeview Play, the connected TV platform of Freeview, provides live, catch-up, and on-demand content free of charge and is integrated into the majority of new TVs sold in the UK.
Furthermore, Freeview Play grants access to an extensive library of over 60,000 hours of on-demand content, catering to a variety of interests and preferences. Additionally, it also offers access to more than 1,500 boxsets.
The platform also offers access to more than 70 standard and a selection of HD live channels, catering to various interests and preferences. In addition to live TV channels, Freeview Play provides access to 30 radio stations and 12 on-demand players.
Owen Jenkinson, Director of Freeview, said, “Since launch, Freeview has continued to grow and bring the best of free TV into people’s homes. This new milestone cements the appetite for free, accessible TV in the UK as new players and channels continue to be added to the service every year at no cost to viewers.”
Everyone TV, formerly known as Digital UK, manages the Freeview platform’s operations. Both companies share three common shareholders: BBC, ITV, and Channel 4. Additionally, Sky holds a shareholder position in Freeview, and Channel 5 has a stake in Everyone TV. Everyone TV is gearing up to introduce a new free-to-view hybrid IP and broadcast platform named Freely. The anticipated launch of Freely is set for the second quarter.
