Amazon Prime Video for its Indian users will start including advertisements during shows and movies starting in 2025. For viewers who want an uninterrupted viewing experience, Amazon plans to introduce a new premium subscription option at a higher price, allowing subscribers to watch content ad-free.
Furthermore, for users who choose the ad-supported version the current Prime membership fee will remain the same. Prime Lite subscribers will also continue to experience ads under their existing plan. However, as the launch date approaches additional details regarding these changes will be announced.
Amazon stated in a blog post, “To continue investing in engaging content and increasing that investment long-term, starting in 2025, Prime Video shows and films in India will feature limited advertisements. We plan to offer significantly fewer ads than what is seen on linear television and other streaming platforms. Additionally, we’ll introduce a new ad-free option and share pricing details later.” The post continued by adding, “We won’t be changing the current Prime membership fees in 2025. Members will be notified via email several weeks before ads appear, with instructions on how to sign up for the ad-free option if they wish. This update does not affect Prime Lite subscribers, who will continue to enjoy the full Prime Video library with ads on a single device (TV or mobile) in 720p HD.”
Notably, Prime Video has established itself as a premier entertainment platform, since its debut in India in December 2016, providing a wide array of Indian and international films, hit television series, critically acclaimed Amazon Originals, add-on subscriptions, and film rentals, all accessible in a single, user-friendly interface.
Additionally, Amazon Prime Video rolled out advertisements for its streaming service in the US and several other countries, beginning in early 2024. The platform now features an ad-supported tier in addition to its existing ad-free subscription option, which continues to be available for an extra fee.
