YouTube has once again secured its position as the exclusive streaming partner for this year’s Coachella festival, offering fans an enhanced viewing experience with the introduction of a multiview feature. This innovative feature, previously popularized in sports streaming, allows viewers to watch up to four live performances simultaneously offering a new experience for the online audiences of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festiva.
Coachella music festival returns to its home at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, Calif., on the weekends of April 12-14 and April 19-21. Headliners featuring this year at the Coachella music festival are Lana del Rey, Doja Cat, Tyler, the Creator and No Doubt.
The exclusive partnership between YouTube and Coachella is set to commence on Friday, April 12, offering viewers access to six livestream feeds each weekend, enabling fans to seamlessly switch between stages, including from Sonora during the first weekend to Yuma for the second.
With the introduction of the multiview feature by YouTube for the first time at Coachella, the multiscreen viewing experience will be available for music events globally. This feature will allow viewers to customize their audio preferences while watching up to four of the live stream stages on their TVs at once. Furthermore, Live concerts have always been an area of ongoing experimentation by various streaming platforms, with Hulu also emerging as a key player in this space, showcasing recent editions of festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Austin City Limits.
To enhance the fans’ experience, custom merchandise for purchase via YouTube Shopping during the festival’s livestream will be offered by Coachella. This unique opportunity allows fans to buy merchandise from Coachella and from more than a dozen artists, including Ice Spice, J. Balvin, Justice, Le Sserafim, Sabrina Carpenter, headliner Tyler, Bleachers as well as Sunday headliner Doja Cat. The shopping feature will be accessible on both mobile and desktop devices.
