No More App-Switching: YouTube Introduces Primetime Channels App in the UK

YouTube has unveiled the Primetime Channels app, allowing users to access a variety of platforms seamlessly within YouTube.

YouTube is unveiling the Primetime Channels in the UK in collaboration with major partners, including Paramount+, Lionsgate+, Hayu, History Play, and Crime & Investigation Play.

Through this initiative, YouTube aims to provide a consolidated platform for media allies to engage broader and varied viewership.

Richard Lewis, the Partnership Director at YouTube UKI, expressed, “The need to jump from app to app to get to desired content disrupts and adds friction to the user experience.” He sees Primetime Channels as a solution, offering users a singular hub for official TV, movies, and streaming content, especially as the trend of watching YouTube on TV grows among the British populace.

Following its successful introduction in the US and Germany, the UK became the third global market to embrace Primetime Channels. This feature will rival Amazon Prime Channels and showcase content from various providers, including Paramount+, Lionsgate+, Hayu, Britbox, Discovery+, and more.

Additionally, DAZN services are slated to debut on Primetime Channels in the UK and Germany. Hayu is also branching out to Germany.

As Peter Parmenter, EVP of Business Development, voiced, “Removing friction and making it as easy as possible for sports fans to access the content they love is central to our strategy at DAZN. Therefore, we are delighted to partner with YouTube for its launch of PrimeTime Channels in the UK and globally.”

In a parallel development, YouTube Music in the UK is launching a dedicated podcast space. This new feature will serve as an alternative to Google Podcasts, which is winding down its operations. The highlight is that users can enjoy podcasts on YouTube Music without any premium subscription, allowing them to switch effortlessly between audio and visual formats, even on the move.
