X, formerly known as Twitter, plans to unveil a fresh smart TV app. The company disclosed this information on Tuesday stating that this TV app is designed to seamlessly integrate with a wide range of devices and offer users the ability to access platform-hosted videos on larger screens. However, the official date for the app launch is still undisclosed.
Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, said, “From the small screen to the big screen X is changing everything. Soon we’ll bring real-time, engaging content to your smart TVs with the X TV App. This will be your go-to companion for a high-quality, immersive entertainment experience on a larger screen.”
Yaccarino disclosed several features of the app during the announcement. The X TV app will operate on the platform’s trending video algorithm, which will ensure that users get to see the most popular videos tailored to their preferences upon launching the app. Furthermore, based on AI-powered topics, users can categorize videos to enhance user engagement.
The upcoming X TV app will also offer cross-device viewing capabilities, allowing users to switch between mobile and smart TV screens. This feature will let the users resume playback from the same point on their smart TV where they paused on their mobile device, provided both devices are logged in with the same account. Additionally, to streamline the process of locating desired content for viewers, video search functionality will also be provided. Furthermore, casting support will also be integrated into the app.
The recent announcement from X puts the social media platform in closer competition with established video streaming providers like YouTube and Netflix. However, despite confirming the development of the X TV app, details such as supported television brands or streaming devices, availability regions, and content offerings remain undisclosed.
@XData tweeted “In the last month, people on X have spent a lot of time watching video – to the tune of 385 million hours! That’s 1.4 trillion seconds, 23 billion minutes, or 16 million days’ worth of video. Let’s watch what happens when you can stream the world in real-time on X TV!”
