Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) has announced that its streaming platform, Max, will officially launch in Turkey on April 15, 2024. This move comes after WBD acquired BluTV at the end of 2023. Instead of operating separately, BluTV will now transition into Max, offering a wider content library, upgraded features, and an improved user experience.
The company has emphasized that it will increase its investment in local productions, aiming to blend BluTV’s Turkish storytelling expertise with the global entertainment powerhouse that is Max. With this launch, Turkey becomes the 77th country where Max is available. Warner Bros. Discovery now boasts 116.9 million subscribers globally, with 6.4 million new sign-ups in Q4 2024.
WBD sees huge potential in Turkey due to its large population, surpassing Germany, the UK, and France. The company hopes to attract millions of new viewers with a mix of Hollywood blockbusters, HBO originals, Turkish dramas, and exclusive Max Originals.
One of BluTV’s biggest hits, Magarsus, a Turkish drama often compared to Succession, is also making the shift.
- Season 2 premieres on BluTV this Thursday, with weekly episode releases.
- The final two episodes (April 17 & 24) will be exclusive to Max, marking the platform’s official arrival.
In a promotional stunt, a family portrait from the show was physically removed from a screening in Istanbul, symbolizing its transition from BluTV to Max.
What Happens to BluTV Subscribers?
For existing BluTV users, not much will change except for more content and better features. WBD confirmed that Hepsiburada Premium members, who previously had free access to BluTV, will continue to enjoy Max at no extra cost.
Jamie Cooke, General Manager for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), the Middle East & North Africa (MENA), and Turkey, called Turkey a key market for Max’s global expansion, said, “By merging BluTV’s strong local content with Max’s global entertainment, we’re not just improving the streaming experience—we’re giving subscribers even more variety and value,”
With its launch in Turkey, Warner Bros. Discovery is taking a big step toward competing with Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video in the region.
