Warner Bros Discovery to Roll Out ‘Max’ Streaming Platform in Europe on May 21

Warner Bros Discovery has unveiled plans to launch its streaming service, Max, in select European regions in May. This service combines HBO Max’s extensive catalogue, Discovery’s nonfiction content, and Eurosport’s top-tier sports offerings.

Starting May 21, Max will be rolled out in the Nordic countries, Iberia, and parts of Central and Eastern Europe, with subsequent launches in Poland, the Netherlands, France, and Belgium. Notably, this marks the company’s first venture into new markets within Europe in over two years. Following these expansions, Max will be accessible in 25 European nations and a total of 65 countries and territories around the globe, following its introduction in the United States in May 2023 and its earlier arrival in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The European launch is highlighted by the premiere of “House of the Dragon Season 2” on Max on June 17. WBD claims that Max’s library will boast over twice the content currently on HBO Max. Max will also serve as the exclusive streaming destination for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 in the 25 European countries and will be included in all subscription tiers to ensure comprehensive access to this major event.

Subscribers can look forward to a wide selection of Warner Bros films, such as “Barbie,” “Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom,” and “Wonka,” along with HBO Originals like “The Last of Us” and “The White Lotus.” The platform will also introduce new Max Originals inspired by Warner Bros Pictures’ properties, including “The Penguin” and “Welcome to Derry,” as well as classics from WB’s library and popular Discovery titles.

Additionally, a Sports Add-On will offer extensive coverage of major sports events, including tennis Grand Slams and cycling’s Grand Tours, with availability varying by country. Max will also feature live, linear channels like CNN International and Eurosport in select plans within certain countries.

Max will provide various subscription options, including ad-supported and premium plans. along with the Sports Add-On, the pricing information will be announced soon. Current HBO Max users will transition to the new Max experience, retaining their profiles and viewing history, with the HBO Max app updating to the Max app on compatible devices.
