Verizon Announces 30% Discount on YouTube Premium, Adds Peacock to Streaming Catalog

Verizon offers its wireless customers NBCUniversal’s Peacock and YouTube Premium, as the latest streaming options. To generate additional revenue and potentially increase customer loyalty the carrier is enhancing its strategy of using promotional deals on content services.

Furthermore, Verizon will offer YouTube Premium at a 30% discount from the regular $13.99 monthly price allowing customers to subscribe to the service for $10 per month as part of its monthly myPlan perks. With YouTube Premium users get the ability to download videos for offline viewing, and full access to YouTube Music Premium and have ad-free video viewing. Beginning May 30 this new perk will be available. Additionally, to market the YouTube Premium package Verizon holds exclusive U.S. rights in the wireless segment.

Notably, Peacock is joining the Verizon +play content hub according to Verizon’s announcement. With +play regular rates apply and the pricing for Peacock is not discounted: Peacock Premium with ads is $5.99 per month, increasing to $7.99 in July, and Premium Plus is $11.99 per month, rising to $13.99. However, customers can pay $10 per month for a $15 monthly credit toward +play services, effectively providing a $5 discount through Verizon’s myPlan, though this benefit is only advantageous if subscribers use it for another service in addition to Peacock.

Additionally, Verizon’s current myPlan provides customers with discounted streaming bundles which include Netflix-Max with ads bundle for $10 per month, a 40% savings, and a Disney bundle that includes Disney+ (no ads), Hulu (with ads), and ESPN+ for $10 per month, which is 33% less than a similar package offered by Disney that includes Disney+ with ads. Furthermore, for customers who switch to either the Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate plan Verizon is offering six months of the Disney bundle at no extra charge.

Frank Boulben, Chief Revenue Officer for Verizon Consumer Group, said, “Customers want three things in their wireless plans: control, flexibility and choice. They want to be able to change their minds every month — they don’t want to be locked in for two years.”

Through Verizon’s myPlan, other subscription add-ons available for $10 per month each include Apple One (which offers Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, and iCloud+), Apple Music Family, Walmart+ (which includes Paramount+), 100 gigabytes per month of mobile hotspot data, and unlimited cloud storage.
