TF1 Group has reached a multi-year deal with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) to air exclusive, free-to-air broadcasts of the French men’s and women’s national basketball teams. The agreement includes matches played at EuroBasket and World Cup tournaments through to 2029.
The partnership kicks off on June 18, 2025, with the Turkey vs. France game at the Women’s EuroBasket 2025. Viewers in France will be able to watch all matches featuring their national teams across TF1’s television channels and its streaming service, TF1+.
The deal will include the following major tournaments:
- Women’s EuroBasket 2025
- Men’s EuroBasket 2025
- FIBA Women’s World Cup 2026
- Women’s EuroBasket 2027
- FIBA Men’s World Cup 2027
- Men’s and Women’s EuroBasket 2029
The agreement comes at a time when French basketball is gaining strong public interest. Both the men’s and women’s teams earned silver medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. With new talents emerging and strong international rankings, fans are expected to tune in for the upcoming tournaments.
The French women’s basketball team, currently ranked third in the world and first in Europe, will compete in Greece this June. They aim to win their third European title, 16 years after their last championship. Following their Olympic silver in Paris, the team hopes to finish at the top this time. On the men’s side, France will take part in EuroBasket 2025 under the leadership of head coach Frédéric Fauthoux. The men’s team is also coming off a silver medal win at the 2024 Olympics. They last won a EuroBasket title in 2013 when Tony Parker led the team. With a new generation of talented players, they hope to replicate that success.
Julien Millereux, Head of Sport at TF1 Group, said, “We’re delighted with our new agreement with FIBA around their flagship tournaments. Following silver-medal successes at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and the emergence of a brilliantly talented new generation of stars in our men’s and women’s national teams, we are seeing a genuine renaissance in French basketball. Thanks to the unrivalled promotional power and exposure offered by our linear TV channels and our TF1+ streaming platform, we are convinced that we can help raise the profile of basketball in France across the full range of audiences.”
Frank Leenders, CEO of FIBA Media and Marketing Services, said, “We’re so pleased to have signed this new agreement with TF1 group, and it’s great that French fans will be able to watch so many matches featuring their national teams at FIBA tournaments. The French men’s and women’s teams are attracting unprecedented interest following their exploits at Paris 2024, and this partnership will bring them to an even wider audience.”
This partnership is expected to enhance the visibility of French basketball and increase engagement among fans. By making the games accessible on both television and digital platforms, TF1 aims to reach a broader audience and promote the sport further in France. With major international basketball events lined up over the next four years, this deal marks a significant step in strengthening basketball’s media presence in the country.
