In a significant restructuring move, Luis Fernandez, the newly appointed chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, has revamped Telemundo Studios.
As part of the restructuring, Ronald Day has been promoted to the positions of President, Entertainment and Chief Content Officer at Telemundo Studios and will continue to report directly to Luis Fernandez, the chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. Concurrently, Javier Pons has been appointed as the Executive Vice President (EVP) of the studio arm, bringing decades of production and management experience from major media companies in Spain, Mexico, and France.
Luis Fernandez said, “At a time when Telemundo is the most-watched network in prime time, we are super-charging our scripted content production under one strong brand: Telemundo Studios. For almost two decades, Telemundo has led in the production of Spanish language content made by Hispanics for Hispanics. With this streamlined structure, we are doubling down on our commitment to serve the Latino community with the best-scripted content across all platforms for years to come.”
The restructuring at Telemundo consolidates all scripted content production under the Telemundo Studios umbrella. Ronald Day, responsibilities will be broadened beyond overseeing the network’s entertainment programming and unscripted content. His new portfolio will encompass Telemundo Studios, overseeing the development and production of all scripted content for both linear television as well as owned and third-party streaming platforms. Meanwhile, Javier Pons will be reporting to Day and will oversee all scripted productions for the Telemundo network and its streaming platforms.
Before his recent promotion, Ronald Day was President of Entertainment and Content Strategy at Telemundo. He was responsible for overseeing the network’s content strategy, emphasizing daily entertainment and collaborating with Telemundo Global Studios, News, and Sports. He joined Telemundo in 2018 after serving in various roles at rival network Univision and has over thirty years of experience in Hispanic entertainment.
Ronald Day said, “I am thrilled to lead the newly consolidated team and continue to drive Telemundo’s momentum. We welcome Javier, who brings tremendous expertise to this role and will help us leverage our extensive production know-how to continue to be the #1 producer of Spanish-language scripted content in the U.S.”
Meanwhile, Javier Pons previously served as the General Director of Globomedia, a leading production company in Spain, and as the Head of TV at The Mediapro Studio and has also worked in Mexico, where he held the position of President at the production company On Demand and served as an Executive Producer at Estudios Azteca.
