NBCUniversal Secures $1.2 Billion in Ad Sales for Paris Olympics

Comcast’s NBCUniversal has announced significant advertising achievements across both linear television and streaming platforms for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics. The media company revealed that it has secured $1.2 billion in advertising commitments for the Games.

During a conference call on Tuesday, NBCU’s President of Olympic and Paralympic Partnerships, Dan Lovinger, provided an update on advertising sales where he revealed that out of the $1.2 billion in advertising commitments, over $350 million comes from new advertisers. Additionally, he stated that “with Paris 2024 on track to generate the most advertising revenue in Olympic history.”

According to a transcript of the conference call, Dan Lovinger detailed the advertiser categories, saying that the company has seen significant growth in the non-alcoholic beverages sector and increases in Consumer Packaged Goods, retail, financial services, and entertainment.

NBCUniversal has completely sold out of advertising inventory for both the opening and closing ceremonies across linear and digital platforms. Although the Game is scheduled to begin on July 26, the digital advertising revenue has already been setting new records.

NBCUniversal has also sold out of its “prime pods” for the 2024 Paris Olympics. These prime pods consist of only one 60-second advertising spot during each 30-minute segment of the 13 evenings of primetime coverage. All of these premium advertising slots have been secured by five undisclosed “Olympic ring holder” sponsors.

For the 2024 Olympics, NBCUniversal is set to broadcast live coverage on NBC, as well as Spanish-language broadcast on Telemundo. Additionally, live and on-demand coverage of all Olympic events will be streamed on NBCU’s Peacock streaming service, along with exclusive programming centered around the Games.

Meanwhile, Peacock’s product team has implemented a range of user experience improvements and product capabilities debuting specifically for the Olympics to enhance the viewer experience. Furthermore, it has also introduced commerce and advertising capabilities with features that encourage viewers to order last-minute food, beverages, or other items from delivery services, facilitating an uninterrupted viewing experience for fans.

Dan Lovinger, said, “It’s going to allow them to not just watch live, but to add things that they want to their ‘my stuff’ folder, to be able to come back and watch events as they see fit. Digital advertisers will not only have access to all live streaming and simulcast events, but their ads will also flow through our host feeds, our interactive Watch with Alex Cooper experience, the Gold Zone, and all the various ad innovations and formats we have on Peacock.”
