In an unexpected move, longtime rivals Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery have announced a strategic partnership to offer consumers a triple-play streaming bundle, including popular platforms Disney+, Hulu, and Max.
Joe Earley, president of direct to consumer at Disney Entertainment, said, “On the heels of the very successful launch of Hulu on Disney+, this new bundle with Max will offer subscribers even more choice and value. This incredible new partnership puts subscribers first, giving them access to blockbuster films, originals, and three massive libraries featuring the very best brands and entertainment in streaming today.”
Furthermore, the streaming bundle featuring Disney+, Hulu, and Max will be available in the U.S. market this summer. However, there are no specific details regarding their pricing or launch date. According to WBD and Disney, the bundle will be purchasable through any of the three platforms’ websites and available in both ad-supported and ad-free subscription options.
Notably, despite their collaboration on a streaming bundle, the apps and content from each company will remain distinct and separate. Additionally, for customers with both services, Disney recently integrated Hulu content into Disney+. Furthermore, Hulu has existing agreements to offer add-on subscriptions for Max and Paramount Global’s Paramount+ with Showtime.
The companies said Wednesday, the trio of streaming services will offer “the best value in entertainment and an unprecedented selection of content from the biggest and most beloved brands in entertainment including ABC, CNN, DC, Discovery, Disney, Food Network, FX, HBO, HGTV, Hulu, Marvel, Pixar, Searchlight, Warner Bros. and many more.”
Furthermore, set to make its debut this fall, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), and Fox Corp. have forged a partnership to introduce a new streaming sports bundle. Notably, bundling services can reduce cancellation rates and the consumers can also benefit from discounted prices.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming and games, said, “This new offering delivers for consumers the greatest collection of entertainment for the best value in streaming, and will help drive incremental subscribers and much stronger retention. Offering this unprecedented entertainment value for fans across all the complimentary genres these three services offer, presents a powerful new roadmap for the future of the industry.”
