Disney+ has introduced a new loyalty program for its subscribers in the United States. Called Disney+ Perks, the initiative offers a variety of rewards, ranging from discounts and savings to unique experiences and sweepstakes opportunities. This move is aimed at adding more value for existing users, especially as the platform implements a new price increase.
The Disney+ Perks program gives subscribers access to several benefits, such as:
- A chance to attend the premiere of the upcoming Freaky Friday movie sequel.
- A six-month complimentary membership with food delivery service DoorDash.
- A 20% discount on purchases made through adidas.com and the adidas mobile app.
- Free in-game tokens for Monopoly Go and Star Wars: TIE Fighter mobile games.
In addition to Disney+ subscribers, those who use its sister streaming service, Hulu, will also receive their own selection of exclusive offers under a similar program. However, the details of the Hulu benefits have not been fully disclosed.
Samantha Rosenberg, Executive Vice President of Marketing at Disney+, said,
“Our fans are some of the most passionate in the world, and Perks are our way of thanking them for subscribing to Disney+. Whether it’s access to in-demand experiences that only Disney can offer or everyday savings and special discounts from top brands, we’re building two complimentary programs that are all about celebrating our viewers.”
The timing of the launch aligns closely with recent price adjustments on Disney+ subscriptions. While these changes have been met with mixed reactions, the Perks program appears to be a strategic response aimed at offsetting concerns and retaining customer loyalty. By introducing exclusive incentives and tangible benefits, Disney+ is attempting to enhance perceived value and reduce potential subscriber churn.
Loyalty programs have become increasingly common across the streaming industry as platforms compete for attention in a crowded market. With growing competition from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Max, Peacock, and Apple TV+, streaming services are turning to marketing innovations to stand out. Disney+ is following this trend by introducing a reward-based initiative to keep its current subscribers engaged while potentially attracting new users through added value.
The structure of Disney+ Perks reflects a growing interest in cross-brand collaborations. By partnering with well-known companies like DoorDash and adidas, Disney+ is expanding the appeal of its offering beyond just content. These types of partnerships also create additional touchpoints between brands and users, improving brand visibility and engagement.
Moreover, the inclusion of sweepstakes and in-person experiences, such as red carpet movie premieres, brings in a unique element that other platforms may not be able to replicate at the same scale. With Disney’s extensive franchise portfolio and fanbase, the loyalty program could become a strong retention tool if well executed.
For now, Disney+ Perks is available only to U.S. subscribers, but there could be plans to expand the program to international markets in the future, depending on its reception and performance.
As the streaming landscape continues to evolve, Disney+ is clearly positioning itself as more than just a content platform. The addition of loyalty rewards underscores the company’s broader strategy to enhance customer relationships and reinforce its brand identity through added-value services.
