Canal+ Group to Exclusively Broadcast Hologic WTA Tour in Czech Republic and Slovakia from 2024 to 2028
The Canal+ Group has recently secured exclusive rights to televise the Hologic WTA Tour in the Czech Republic and Slovakia through its channels. Effective January 2024 until 2028, this agreement will enable Canal+ to broadcast a wide range of WTA tournaments, including the prestigious WTA 1000s and 500s, various WTA 250s, and the celebrated WTA Finals.
These events will be accessible to subscribers through satellite or OTT services, including the group’s newly launched streaming platform as of late April 2023.
Ladislav Řeháček, Canal+’s VP for the Czech Republic and Slovakia, expressed enthusiasm for acquiring the WTA rights. He cited the region’s growing tennis popularity, the remarkable achievements of Czech players, and the sport’s year-round schedule with a substantial female viewership as critical factors for this initiative. He believes this move will enhance Canal+’s sports offerings, broadening its appeal beyond its current football-focused audience, which includes the Premier League.
Marina Storti, CEO of WTA Ventures, also commented on the partnership. She highlighted the consistent presence of exceptional players from the Czech Republic and Slovakia in top-tier tennis.
Storti expressed confidence that Canal+ subscribers would enjoy thrilling seasons of the Hologic WTA Tour. She views this new five-year agreement as a significant step for Canal+ in expanding its tennis coverage and supporting the visibility of women’s sports.
