Apple Hikes Subscription Price of Apple TV+ by Over 40% in a Single Year

Apple has raised the monthly subscription fee for its streaming service from $6.99 to $9.99.

Apple has announced a significant increase in the price of its streaming service, Apple TV+, with the monthly subscription fee rising from $6.99 to $9.99 and the annual plan increasing from $69 to $99.

Apple stated, “We are focused on delivering the best experiences possible for our customers by consistently adding high-quality entertainment, content, and innovative features to our services; since launching four years ago, Apple TV+ has made history for streaming services by crossing major milestones in a short period, thanks to its extensive selection of award-winning and broadly acclaimed series, feature films, documentaries, and kids and family entertainment.”

This adjustment follows a price increase last year when the service’s monthly cost went from $4.99 to $6.99.

Many of these services have kept their ad-supported tiers at the same price to attract users to these options. However, Apple TV+ does not currently offer an ad-supported tier. The possibility of Apple introducing an ad-supported tier remains to be determined, as Apple TV+ remains one of the few streaming services without this option.

Additionally, Apple disclosed that it will be increasing the price of its Apple One bundle, which includes Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, and cloud storage. Apple News and Apple Arcade will also see price hikes to $12.99 (up from $9.99) and $6.99 (up from $4.99) respectively.

Apple noted that it has “tripled” the titles available on Apple Arcade and added over 100 new publishers to Apple News, along with new features like puzzles.

Apple is one of many companies to increase its streaming service prices. Other services, such as Netflix, Peacock, Disney+, Hulu, Paramount+, Discovery+, and Max, have all revised their prices this year.

Netflix, in particular, raised the prices of its basic and premium plans in the US, the UK, and France, with the new prices being $11.99 and $22.99 per month, respectively, for the basic and premium plans in the US. Additionally, Warner Bros. Discovery has announced a 30% increase in the subscription cost for its ad-free Discovery+ plans.
