AMC Networks and Charter Spectrum Sign Early Renewal Deal, Bundle AMC+ with Cable TV Service

Charter Spectrum on Wednesday announced a multiyear agreement with AMC Networks, the owner of channels like AMC, IFC, BBC America, We TV, and Sundance TV, along with streaming platforms such as AMC+, Acorn TV, Shudder, and ALLBLK.

Furthermore, a year after its high-profile carriage dispute with The Walt Disney Co., Charter Spectrum has struck a new agreement with a different company, advancing its strategy to bridge streaming services with traditional linear TV.

Following its agreement with Disney, which included Disney+ and ESPN+ for select customers at no extra cost, Charter has also secured partnerships with Paramount, offering Paramount+ and BET+, and TelevisaUnivision, adding the ViX streaming service to its lineup.

Kim Kelleher, chief commercial officer of AMC Networks, said, “This early, multi-year agreement between Charter and AMC Networks ensures Spectrum TV customers will continue to have access to our high-quality original programming however they prefer to watch it, including through the ad-supported version of AMC+. Charter has been a long-time partner, and this agreement reflects our strong and mutually beneficial relationship and commitment to viewers.”

Charter and AMC have confirmed that their new agreement, finalised ahead of schedule, will grant Spectrum TV Select subscribers access to AMC+ at no additional cost although the financial details were not revealed.

Notably, according to its AMC agreement, Charter will provide its TV customers with over $40 worth of streaming services monthly, all at no additional cost.

Tom Montemagno, executive VP of programming acquisition for Charter, said, “This agreement with AMC Networks supports our goal of enhancing the value and variety of premium entertainment content available to our customers. The addition of AMC+ at no extra cost for our TV Select customers builds on our new distribution framework, which this year alone has included the addition of Paramount+ Essential, ViX Premium with Ads, Disney+ and ESPN+. We appreciate AMC Networks’ partnership in reaching a distribution agreement that benefits our mutual customers and helps transform the video industry.”
