Airtel is set to discontinue its Wynk Music app and collaborate with Apple to offer its customers access to both music and video content. As part of this new partnership, which is expected to roll out later this year Airtel will soon provide exclusive deals on Apple TV+ and Apple Music to its users in India.
However, the closure of Wynk Music will not result in any job losses for its employees as confirmed by Airtel and will incorporate all Wynk staff into its main operations. According to a company spokesperson, this decision is part of Airtel’s larger strategy to optimize its services while maintaining job security for its workforce.
Furthermore, as part of the transition following Wynk Music’s upcoming shutdown, Airtel plans to offer exclusive deals on Apple Music to Wynk Premium subscribers. According to sources, the closure of Wynk Music is anticipated within the next few months.
A spokesperson told news agency PTI, “We can confirm that we will sunset Wynk Music and all Wynk Music employees will be absorbed within the Airtel ecosystem.”
Notably, Wynk has grown to over 100 million users, competing with platforms like Gaana and Spotify after being launched in 2014. With the upcoming transition, Apple TV+ will be integrated into Airtel’s Xstream video streaming platform, accessible through premium subscription plans. However, Airtel has yet to reveal the financial terms of the partnership or pricing details.
