Starting January 21, 2025, Sky Cinema subscribers who currently enjoy Paramount+ as part of their package will be moved to the Basic with Ads plan. This means that the ad-free experience they’ve had since the streaming service launched in the UK will no longer be included. The Basic with Ads plan, introduced in November 2024, offers access to Paramount+’s full content library but includes adverts and limits streaming to a single device.
Sky Cinema subscribers previously received Paramount+’s ad-free Standard tier as part of their £10/month subscription. However, under the new arrangement, the ad-supported tier will replace it. The change will apply automatically at the end of each customer’s billing cycle, with Sky estimating the transition will be reflected on accounts from February 16, 2025.
Paramount+ Tier Breakdown:
- Basic with Ads (£4.99/month): Full content library, ads, single device streaming.
- Standard (£7.99/month): Ad-free streaming on two devices.
- Premium (£10.99/month): Ad-free 4K UHD, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and four concurrent streams.
Sky customers wishing to retain ad-free access or upgrade to 4K will need to cancel their Sky-provided access and subscribe to Paramount+ separately. Sky has stated they cannot currently offer upgrades to higher tiers within their partnership. This move aligns with the streaming industry’s shift toward advertising-supported plans, similar to Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video.
