RTL Group and Deutsche Telekom Extend RTL+ Partnership Until 2030

RTL Group and Deutsche Telekom have agreed to continue their partnership for the streaming service RTL+ until 2030. This shows their commitment to growing RTL+ and competing with big streaming platforms like Amazon Prime and Netflix in Germany.

The partnership, which started in 2020, includes a deal where RTL+ Premium is automatically part of most MagentaTV plans without any extra cost for users. MagentaTV customers can enjoy over 55,000 hours of content in various genres, available on all devices. This includes live sports such as UEFA Europa League soccer and NFL football, as well as popular TV shows, reality programs, documentaries, and news.

RTL+ offers a wide range of content, including movies like “Venom: Let There Be Carnage”, the crime series “Mocro Maffia”, the romantic film “Love Again” featuring Céline Dion, and the beloved kids’ show “PAW Patrol”.

In addition to Germany, RTL operates streaming services M6+ in France and RTL+ in Hungary. CEO Thomas Rabe said, “Our streaming businesses in Germany, France and Hungary continue to grow dynamically in all key dimensions: number of paying subscribers, viewing hours, subscription and advertising revenue. We have defined a clear path to reach profitability with our streaming business in 2026.” And added, “Renewing the successful cooperation between Deutsche Telekom and RTL Deutschland for another five years contributes significantly to our strategic goals.”

Since its full launch in 2022, RTL+ has subscriber growth, reaching over 6 million paying customers by the end of 2024, up from 4.9 million in 2023. This makes RTL+ the leading local streaming service in Germany. However, it still trails behind market leaders Amazon Prime and Netflix, which have significantly higher subscriber numbers in the region.
