Paramount+ Drops Showtime Branding From Premium Streaming Plan

Paramount Global has quietly rebranded its top-tier streaming subscription plan, removing the “Showtime” name from the package. Starting June 23, 2025, the company informed subscribers that the plan previously known as Paramount+ With Showtime is now called Paramount+ Premium.

The change affects only the name, not the content or pricing. Paramount+ Premium will continue to cost $12.99 per month or $119.99 per year. The package remains ad-free, except for live CBS local broadcasts, which may still include advertisements.

Paramount+ now offers two subscription options:

  • Paramount+ Premium (formerly Paramount+ With Showtime): Ad-free streaming (excluding live CBS channels), includes Showtime originals, live East and West Showtime feeds, and additional live streams from CBS News 24/7, CBS Sports HQ, and Mixible.
  • Paramount+ Essential with Ads: Includes limited ads and excludes local CBS live stations, priced at $7.99/month or $59.99/year.

This rebrand follows a 2023 update where Paramount first introduced the Showtime brand into its streaming lineup by merging the two services. The stand-alone Showtime app was officially shut down in April 2024.

In a customer support post, Paramount explained the reasoning behind the name change:
“Since we recently introduced a sampling of Showtime programming to the Essential plan, the Premium plan name reflects the broad and diverse offerings across both plan tiers,” the company said. “Showtime programming remains an important part of Paramount+, and is still prominently represented on the service!”

Notably, the new Premium plan still gives users full access to popular Showtime original shows like Dexter: Original Sin, Yellowjackets, and The Chi. While the name has changed, the content lineup remains intact.

Furthermore, the live Showtime East and West feeds continue to be part of the Premium package, offering users the same Showtime experience within the Paramount+ interface.

Meanwhile, there will be no change to the name of the linear TV network Paramount+ With Showtime the cable, satellite, and streaming channel that’s available through providers such as Hulu with Live TV. Despite the streaming rebrand, the linear network will continue to operate under its current name. This may potentially cause some confusion for users who access both the streaming service and the TV network.

Additionally, depending on the device, users may not immediately notice the plan name change when signing up. Paramount assured subscribers that no matter what the plan is labeled on their screen, their benefits will stay the same: “Rest assured, if you sign up for the Premium plan while it’s still Paramount+ With Showtime, your plan benefits will not be impacted!” the company confirmed.

This strategic change comes as other streaming companies reevaluate their branding. For example, Warner Bros. Discovery is going in the opposite direction. After dropping the HBO name last year, it plans to bring it back, renaming its flagship platform Max back to HBO Max this summer.

According to JB Perrette, Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO of streaming and games, said,  “Not everything for everyone in a household, but something distinct and great for adults and families.”

In summary, Paramount’s decision to simplify the branding of its streaming service reflects a broader shift in how companies are trying to make their offerings clearer to consumers. While the Showtime name may be gone from the plan title, the programming continues to play a key role in Paramount+ Premium.
