DistroTV, the free, ad-supported streaming TV (FAST), has recently announced an expansion of its distribution through a partnership with MX Player, facilitated by an app-in-app integration. As a result of this collaboration, MX Player users in India will now have the opportunity to access DistroTV’s content line-up, which includes hundreds of channels, all available for free.
DistroTV’s content offering consists of 270 channels on a global scale, with 180 of them specifically catering to the Indian audience. Among the diverse array of channels are categories such as news, sports, movies, music, entertainment, and lifestyle. Notably, DistroTV also features original content and new channel selections tailored to various regional languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Marathi, English, Punjabi, and more.
Commenting on the partnership, Navdeep Saini, the co-founder, and CEO of DistroScale, the parent company of DistroTV, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are excited to partner with MX Player, which ranks among the largest streaming services in the world. Through this collaboration, we aim to bring the best of Indian and International FAST content to audiences in India, making it accessible on both mobile devices and Connected TVs.”
Vikas Khanchandani, CEO DistroScale, India, SEA, and MENA, highlighted the significance of the partnership for content owners, saying, “MX Player holds the position of a pioneer in AVOD content and boasts one of the largest reach platforms in the digital domain. This partnership opens up avenues for content owners to tap into this massive digital reach across different devices. The symbiotic nature of this collaboration is evident, given that both organizations strongly advocate AVOD.”
DistroTV, an independent, ad-supported streaming television service, made its debut in 2019 under DistroScale, headquartered in California. The platform was founded by Navdeep Saini, Stanley Wong, and Chenggang Duan.
In terms of its user base, MX Player reportedly has approximately 78 million users in India.
There were earlier talks about Amazon’s potential interest in acquiring MX Player for a markdown value of $50 million; however, according to the latest news from mint, the deal is no longer on the table, and MX Player is currently looking at raising funds.
It’s worth noting that MX Player was previously acquired by Times Internet Ltd for $140 million in 2018.
